115 degrees, but it's a Dry Heat!!

On Sunday, June 19, Cheryl met us at Mom's and entrusted Nicholas to our care. He's going to Phoenix with us to spend a week with his cousins.

Our son David, wife Julie, and grandkids Emily (9) and Jack (6) live in Phoenix. The week was memorable. Temperatures ranged from 108 to 115 degrees during the day. (It’s a dry heat!!) But it was amazing how nice it was on the patio with ceiling fans and the misters going. We were able to eat dinner on the patio some evenings. And a game of whiffle ball wasn't too bad after the sun went down.

David and Julie were in Banff, Canada from Monday to Saturday at a litigators’ conference so John and I were in charge of Emily, Jack, and Nicholas, along with Speedy, their Golden Doodle (a cross between a standard poodle and a golden retriever), age 9 months and 60 lbs. The kids were in camp most mornings and we played in the afternoons. Lots of fun!!

Part of the early morning routine is walking the dog. On Wednesday I took off for a stroll aroun d the block with Speedy. He is very strong, but if you say “sit” he minds pretty well. Somewhere on the route my foot twisted to the right about the time Speedy pulled to the left in his search for a good potty spot. I was off balance, knew I was going down, but didn’t want to let go of the leash. I managed to tuck my shoulder and roll to my back, keep hold of the dog and skin my knee. When I stood up I realized my foot was hurt, but I was able to walk home. There wasn’t too much pain in walking, not a lot of swelling so I kept going. Next morning I wasn’t sore or bruised so assumed my foot would be okay given time.

On Sunday, June 26, Cheryl drove to Phoenix with my Mom, Catherine and Christian to pick Nicholas up. We wished David Happy 40th Birthday.

Today,John and I flew back to Norfolk. I wore flip flops because my foot was still swollen and I was afraid if I had to remove shoes I wouldn’t be able to get them back on.
