Dr. Ball, oncologist at UCSD Cancer Center, gave us the good/bad news today. The skeletal scan showed 3 areas of possible lesions of the bone: his right lower leg, his left upper arm, and an upper vertebrae in his neck. Blood test done here was about the same as one done in Connecticut on October 11. Myeloma is a very slow growing blood cancer, as opposed to leukemia which is more aggressive. Guess that's a good thing. To further define the problem they will do a bone marrow biopsy in 2 weeks, a ct scan of his neck and a PET scan of his body sometime soon. Then we talk treatment.
A good website about the disease is at http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/multiple-myeloma/DS00415/DSECTION=1
John was feeling better when we left the office. Sounds treatable.
We picked up David at home; met Vicki at Pat & Oscar's in Carmel Mt Ranch; picked up the dinner Annie had ordered; then drove to Escondido to Annie & Peter's for dinner. They just got back from a 5 day cruise to Mexico and June and David are here from Missouri. Wish we had been able to go. They had a group of about 30 friends, family and friends of friends along. It was a great evening.
