John drove into Jamestown and had his bi-weekly blood draw a day early. Unbelievably, about 6 p.m. Susie called from the UCSD Cancer Center. She already had the results and the hemoglobin was 8.7 so another shot of Procrit is called for. I may get good at this.
Day’s Highlight: Old First Night in the amphitheater. The celebration of the beginning of Chautauqua is always on the first Tuesday in August. It’s a rather hokey, but fun, birthday party. Fund raising is also a big part of the evening, along with acknowledgement of individuals and families who have been coming to Chautauqua every summer for many years. $50,000 was their goal and they met it. 96 years was the longest tenure, and 7 generations of one family. You get credit for one year if your mother was pregnant with you at Chautauqua, and you get credit if you were in the military but your heart was at Chautauqua. Lots of music and singing. The Children’s School and Boys & Girls Club take center stage and a good time was had by all.
