Campobello Island, summer home of the Roosevelts, is in New Brunswick, about 100 miles north of Bar Harbor. You go through Lubec, easternmost town in the United States, across the FDR Memorial Bridge, through the Border checkpoint, and on the Island.

FDR's parents first came to Campobello in 1883 when he was one year old. They stayed in one of the big hotels that attracted wealthy families from Boston, New York, Ottawa and Montreal. They enjoyed it so much they bought property and built a house (called a "cottage") and became summer residents. FDR loved it here and when he and Eleanor were married, they continued coming in the summers. Their first son was born here. The existing Roosevelt cottage was built in 1897 for a Mrs. Kuhn. FDR's mother bought it in 1909 and bequeathed it to FDR and Eleanor when she died. His parents cottage was demolished in the 1950s.
Here's a photo of the laundry room and a flower in the garden.
In 1964 the U.S. and Canada signed an international treaty creating the Roosevelt Campobello International Park as a memorial to President Roosevelt.
