John and Toby left at 7:30 a.m. to go north to a RV dealer in Brunswick to solve the sticky problem of the rear wheel covers. They removed the wheel covers, put valve extenders on the inside tires, and told John all he needs is a sturdy 1-9/16” socket to get the nuts off the decorative covers.
I took the car, went to the gym and met him at 10 a.m. in Brunswick The work was done much faster than we had expected. We cancelled the reservation we had made at a RV park in Brunswick, drove 120 miles west to Americus, Georgia, using the “blue” roads. We saw a dead armadillo on the road. I thought they were only in Texas. Also saw lots of lilacs hanging from vines in the trees. I thought lilacs grew on bushes. So much to learn!!
We had a reservation at The Brickyard Plantation Golf Club & RV Park. Sounds impressive. The owners started out creating a 7 acre pond for fishing in 1977 which has grown to a 27 hole golf course and the small RV Park. They also raise Bermuda grass for sale. It’s very green, very flat, VERY rural. Camping only costs $10 a night and if you golf, you can golf for free if you’re willing to walk the course. A cart will cost you $6. Seems surreal somehow. The property has been in the current owner’s family since before the Civil War.
All the time we have been RV’ing the division of labor has been typical--men on the outside, women on the inside. John has connected and disconnected the sewer, water, electricity and put out the awning. I finally decided I really need to know how to do these things. So, under close supervision I did all those tasks. When I was done I had to apologize to him for making him do this all by himself for all these years, sometimes in the rain.
It’s so rural, we have no reception for our T-mobile air card that we use for internet access. This is only the second time since we left home that we have not been able to connect. The other was at Fort Stockton in West, Texas. The owner says there is a very nice library in Americus with computers we can use.
We saw a flyer about President Carter teaching a Sunday School class at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains. It listed several dates, including this coming Sunday. Unfortunately we will be gone by then.
