American Kazoo Factory

Today we’re off to the American Kazoo Company and Graycliff. We left home about 9:30 and drove south on Highway 62. It was supposed to take us all the way to Eden where the Kazoo Factory is located, but there was construction and a detour and it took us a while to find our way back to 62. So through Orchard Park and the Town and Village of Hamburg, to Eden.

Kazoos were invented in Georgia in the 1840s. The Original American Kazoo Company was established in Eden, New York in 1916 and is now the only metal kazoo factory in the world. Plastic kazoos are made in China. In Eden they are still using the 1916 equipment. The factory is small but they make a lot of kazoos. They have a machine where you can make your own kazoo and John is now the proud owner of one.
He spent the rest of the day serenading me. Remember, “hum, don’t blow.” Our tour guide has lived here most of her life and looked at me like I had two heads when I said I was afraid of snow. I know, I know, it’s irrational, but I keep telling everyone “I don’t do snow.”
