Statue of Liberty

The ferry ride approaching the Statue of Liberty is awe-inspiring. This is such an icon and so symbolic of what used to be a welcoming country. It was a gift from te people of France to the United States to celebrate the end of the Civil War. France paid for the Statue, the U.S. paid for the base and pedestal. It was finished in 1884. The Island closes at 5 p.m. so we didn't have a of time. It was okay, because we didn't have a ticket to go into the base so didn't have a lot to see. (Note: if you are going to New York and plan to visit the Statue, go on-line and get your tickets before you get there.)

We did get a Ranger tour (here he is with John). There were only four of us on the tour, so it was a nice conversation. We enjoyed walking around the base of the Statue and looking at her from all angles. Then back on the ferry and back to Liberty State Park.

We can see the Statue of Liberty from Toby. This is a great location to do our tourist activities from.
