
The Bennington Monument is pretty hard to miss as you drive around town. It's 306 feet tall and is dedicated to the Battle of Bennington that took place in 1777 during the Revolutionary War. The monument was finished in 1889. Most monuments built during that time frame were dedicated to the Civil War.
Originally there was a staircase doing to the top. In the 1950s an elevator was installed. The view from the 200 foot level is nice, particularly with the leaves turning color down below.
