We selected Zion Lutheran Church in Pittsfield, Massachusetts because it was on the way to Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Pownal, where we are staying, is only about three miles north of the Massachusetts border. It's 25 miles to Pittsfield.
Another 15 miles to Stockbridge, where Norman Rockwell lived the last 25 years of his life. The Norman Rockwell Museum is just out of town and his studio is on the grounds. The museum has the largest collection of his original paintings and it was very interesting to see the original art of some of the Saturday Evening Post covers that are so familiar. Like this one - The Runaway. He actually did another painting of the same scene and the policeman is very stern looking.

His models were all local folk. In the years before he could take scads of photographs, they had to pose for him. One of the docents said her grandson had been a model.
He had an interesting life and his three sons are all artists of one sort or another. one is a sculptor living in Paris and several of his sculptures are on the grounds of the museum. We enjoyed our afternoon and the drive through some more beautiful color.
