Museums with Dolls and Dinosaurs

After church we headed off to Zionsville, about 20 miles northwest of downtown Indianapolis. The tourist literature talked about what a "charming" old fashioned downtown it has and I assumed it would be a good place to find brunch. It is "charming," although quite small, but everything was closed. We ended up eating at a chain restaurant back on the highway (ugh), before we went 5 miles east to Carmel, and the Museum of Miniature Houses. It's located in a small, former house on Main Street. Carmel is in the midst of a large redevelopment effort and is creating an arts district downtown. The museum hopes to move into a larger facility in that district. The staff told us they have many more houses in storage than are on display.

The exhibits are all surrounded by plexiglass, of course, but it makes it difficult to get good photos. Even in museum mode, without a flash, I kept getting a lot of reflection. One of my favorite houses was a metal one with pink bathroom fixtures that was almost identical to one I had as a child.

On our way back to Indianapolis, by chance we drove down Meridian Street. It's a beautiful street with beautiful, big, old homes. I could live here.

We passed the Children's Museum when we got closer to downtown and I remembered the picture I had seen of the dinosaurs breaking through the wall, so we stopped and I took a couple of photos. Wikipedia says it's the world's largest Children's Museum. Wish I had the grandkids with me so we could visit.
