Only 120 miles to go today and we were in our campsite at the Ponderosa Pines Resort in Lotus by noon. Route was north on I-5 to Sacramento, then east on US-50. We’re in the Sierra Foothills on Highway 49, named for the 49ers who came to California when gold was discovered. The campground is on the south fork of the American River. Lots of rafting companies offering rides through the rapids. Very few campsites have sewer hook-ups and John stared down another camper who was heading for the same one we were. John won.
The weather is idyllic. 85 degrees, smell of the pines – yumm!
