5 Inches of Rain Overnight - but we made it to Michigan

Seemed like it stormed all night long, complete with thunder and lightning. Our ground fault blew 3 times during the night which shut off the small fan we have blowing. There’s no electrical draw other than the fan so not sure what’s going on. Rain had slacked off a bit when we got up, but our plan for leaving at 7 a.m. is out the window. Forecast is for thunderstorms all day here and in the morning in Grand Rapids where we are headed. Trying to decide what to do. Our black and gray tanks are close to full so we have to go dump today in any case. Another surprise, we have a leak in our roof. When John got up he asked why the screen door was wet. There was a drip coming from the ceiling above the door. Oh, great!! Manus called and told us there had been 5 inches of rain last night. No wonder we had a leak. That’s certainly nothing we would ever have to worry about at home.

It quit raining about 8 a.m. so we quickly packed up, hooked up the car to the trailer and went to the dump station to empty our holding tanks. Decided to hit the road and at least make it to Grand Rapids. We got on the tollway (I-90) with plenty of change in our pockets. Saturday morning – not much traffic—ha! Because of the rain there was lots of flooding and road closures. It took us 2 hours to get through Chicago. We finally made it to the campground about 3:30 p.m., or we thought it was 3:30. Turns out we’re in the Eastern time zone so it’s 4:30. I’d already given up on visiting Gerald Ford’s library today so we settled down to do some cleaning.

John borrowed a ladder from the campground office and I climbed up on the roof. Seems like there is caulking missing which may be causing the leaking. I polished the roof while I was there and added some caulking. We’ll test it in the next thunderstorm.
