Our timing of our trip to the Burch’s was based on Don’s promise to me that if we were here on a Sunday he would drive us into New York City, but that was the only day they would drive into Manhattan. We left their house about 9 a.m. and went through the Holland Tunnel. By car, we did a good job of seeing the highlights of Manhattan, including the South Street Seaport with a view of the Brooklyn Bridge, and the 6-foot high brass bull that used to sit in front of the Stock Exchange on Wall Street. Wall Street has been blocked off since September 11 and we believe they moved the bull. I had to grab my turn for a photo with all the other tourists trying to do the same thing.
Past Ground Zero and Washington Square Park. Don bought us a pretzel in the Park from a street vendor. We saw Times Square; Madison Square Garden; Penn Station and Grand Central Station; shops on Fifth Avenue; Rockefeller Plaza; the Theatre District; the Public Library; Cathedral of St. John the Divine; Riverside Church; Grant’s Tomb; Central Park. The weather was glorious and when we went back into New Jersey across the George Washington Bridge, I really felt like we would know where we were going when we come back in December. Kudos to Marcia, who drove, and Don, her navigator.
We ate late lunch/early dinner at Giuseppe’s in Cedar Grove. Portions were big enough we took enough home for two more meals.
