Across Alligator Alley to Florida City, FL

From Fort Myers, we drove south and east on I-75, across the Everglades. This section is called Alligator Alley because that was the name given to the two-lane road that used to be here and there were lots of alligators on the road. The freeway has fences on either side that prevent that today. Our destination is Goldcoaster RV Resort in Florida City, just southwest of Homestead, the last city before the start of the Florida Keys. We're just here for one night.

Goldcoaster has about 500 sites, but about 350 have permanent housing on them. Sites are large and landscaping is lush. It's about 2 miles around the perimeter, a good place to walk.

We drove to Homestead Air Force Reserve Base (part of the area that was demolished by Hurricane Andrew several years ago) and ordered passes for Disney World. We'll pick them up when we come back in a couple of weeks, after Key West.
