Paul Revere's house was built in 1680 by a wealthy merchant and purchased by the Reveres in 1770. They sold it in 1800. In 1902 Paul Revere's great-grandson bought the building to keep it from being demolished. Restoration work was done and it opened to the public in 1908.

Old North Church gained fame when the lanterns were hung in the belfry on April 18, 1775 to indicate that the British were coming by sea, not by land. Its official name is Christ Church in the City of Boston. Built in 1723, it is the oldest standing church building in Boston. It is still an active Episcopal congregation.

We called our friends, Marc and Lori, from the church steps. In 1985, the four of us took a vacation combined with an International Municipal Clerks' Conference in Boston. One morning I talked Marc and John into going for a walk with me and we would find breakfast on the way. A couple of miles later we found an Italian bakery open and got coffee and prune danish that we ate in the courtyard of the church. John and I tried to figure out where the bakery was, and we think we found it a block away.

It was about 4:30 by the time we turned around and headed back to our car.
