Our Own Private Tour

John and David went to pick up our rental car. We needed something that would seat five since we hire the guide but have to provide our own car and we couldn't shoe horn five in our Saturn. We got to the Visitor Center about 9 and had an hour to visit the Museum before we picked up our guide.

This Notice Inviting Bids intrigued me. It was for the removal of dead bodies that had been buried on the Battlefield for internment in the new Federal Cemetery. A note beneath said that the bid was awarded to a local resident who was paid $1.59 per body. This was 3 months after the Battle.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and although the tour was supposed to be two hours, he spent almost three with us. We were able to ask unlimited questions which was enjoyable for all of us, especially David. We drove the entire Battlefield and got out at several places. One of them was a photo op at one the monuments for the four of us to be photographed holding the Poway News-Chieftain. They publish vacation photos.

We went back to the motel and ate the last of our picnic items sitting by the pool. Then we walked over to the Cyclorama Center to hear a Ranger talk about the life of a soldier.
