7 ELCA congregations in Vermont. 3 Missouri Synod. Land of Congregational Churches.
We knew that New England was Congregational country, but not that Lutheran congregations were no few and far between. There are 7 ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) and 3 Missouri Synod congregations in the entire state. (It is a small state.) We wanted to do some tourist things near Burlington so we headed 60 miles northwest to Community Lutheran Church in South Burlington. There was a guest pastor this morning who said he had been a pastor in Phoenix, Arizona. John talked to him after the service and he knows Pastor Estegren, our retired pastor at First Lutheran who also served a congregation in Phoenix before he came to San Diego. Small world.
This was definitely one of the friendliest congregations we've worshipped with this trip. A+
