John and I went to First Lutheran Church in Dekalb, south of Sycamore. Northern Illinois University is here and it’s homecoming weekend. It’s one of those lovely old towns with large Catholic, Methodist, and Lutheran churches on opposite corners. The Lutheran church has a large congregation and has built a wonderful brick addition to the original church that looks like it “belongs.” It’s interesting how some additions look “added on” and some look like they ”belong” to the original. The words in Swedish above the alter translate, "Holy are they who hear God's Word and do it."
