On the road early, the dashboard heater kept our feet warm and jackets took care of the rest.
One of our reasons for going to St. Louis is to see Gordon and Sally Beck. He was our pastor at Mt. Olive in Poway for ten years and Sally is the most wonderful artist that has designed several of the Christmas cards we’ve used in the past. She works for Creative Communications for the Parish. This year we selected Christmas cards with a New York theme since we had planned to be there at Christmas. Plans change, but I had ordered the cards delivered to the Becks since I thought we would be there. So in addition to a visit, we would save the cost of having them send the cards on to us in California. However, Pastor Beck has to be in Vandalia, where he is serving a pastoral vacancy, and won’t be home while we are there. SO, since Vandalia was just about 25 miles west of Highway 61, we decided to take a detour and visit him there. He was surprised, to say the least and we had some good hugs.
St. Louis is one big city that still has a RV park in their downtown area. The last time we stayed here they were talking about selling the property, but they’re still renting spaces. We were pleased at how much the area is changing. St. Louis seems to be another city that is revitalizing its downtown.
Sally fixed us dinner and we spent the evening visiting with her.
